WILSONVILLE, Ore., Jan. 17, 2006 - Mentor Graphics Corporation, (NASDAQ: MENT), the market and technology leader in printed circuit board (PCB) design solutions, today announced it has worked with AMD (NYSE: AMD), a Sunnyvale, California-based company, to provide processor-centric reference designs for use with the Expedition Series and Board Station RE design flows for AMD's current and future generation processors. These reference designs, available through AMD, are designed to accelerate the creation of computer motherboards using AMD64 technology. They enable Expedition and Board Station RE customers to re-use design data, significantly reducing design risk and time to market goals, while increasing design quality.
"This collaborative effort is another example of AMD and Mentor working together to help bring leading-edge products to the market quickly and with outstanding results," said Joe Menard, corporate vice president, software strategy and alliances, AMD. "Board Station RE and Expedition are important tools that can help our design customers meet the growing market demand for AMD64 single- and dual-core processor-based systems today and in the future."
Microprocessors, and their associated chipsets, continue to increase in density, speed and pin count. This makes it increasingly difficult for PCB designers to meet interconnect timing and signal integrity constraint challenges while placing and routing these complex microprocessor components on the board. To facilitate design-in of AMD64 microprocessors, AMD provides its customers with core layout designs for each processor. These reference designs include not only the processor but also memory interfaces, HyperTransport technology, power distribution and terminations.
"This reference design kit enables our customers to work with the latest technology from AMD," said Henry Potts, vice president and general manager of Mentor Graphics, systems design division. "By working together with AMD, we once again have been able to provide our customers the necessary tools to meet and exceed their performance and time to market goals, while creating the very best designs possible."
